Corbin’s is a seasonal gift shoppe that is open from May thru December of each year. We specialize in Historical Photographs and Books. We have the largest selection of historical Photos in the 1000 Island area. We have the most complete selection of regional and history books in the north country. Corbin’s River Heritage is known as “the” shop to visit when you come to Clayton because of it’s unique inventory and setting. Located in downtown section of Clayton next to the Key Bank Building. Corbin’s has been located in the Barker building since 1947. The business started as a Photography Studio and Photofinishing shop. In 1996 the store was completely renovated and expanded adding items like Photos, Books, Clothing and Nautical Gifts. Built in 1854, the Barker Building is the oldest brick building downtown and is listed on the national registry. It still has the original tin ceiling in the storefront.
The gift shop is more commonly known for it’s historical photo collection, reproduced period pamplets and notecards, Regional Books and family written books. The photo collections comprises of glass plates and negatives from the turn of the century images thru 1930’s and of Les Corbin Photography from the 1940’s to the 1960’s. We have images from such photographers including, Hofstater, Hardy, McIntyre, McComb and Kambitz. The compilation makes up a mirror of Clayton history and surrounding communities and the Thousand Islands Region. Along with digital reproduction, images are still produced one at a time in a small darkroom on premise and sold in the retail shoppe.
